Day 3 Christchurch—Mount Cook—Queenstown

Leave the hustle and bustle of Christchurch to travel across the Canterbury Plains and a stunning natural landscape of glacial blue lakes and tussock clad hills. A rare opportunity here to take an optional scenic flight for an overview of Mt Cook’s ice falls, snowfields and glaciers Continue to Queenstown, the ultimate outdoor adventure playground, set against a stunning backdrop of lakes and mountains.

Enjoy your leisurely breakfast as this is a free day for you to pursue your own activities

Day 5 Queenstown - Milford Sound - Queenstown

An early morning start following the shores of Lake Wakatipu, and through Te Anau where you will be mesmerized by the immense landscape. Travel through beech forest, passing majestic mountains, on through the Homer Tunnel in time to board your catamaran for the Milford Sound cruise. Cruise past Mitre Peak, the highest mountain in the world to rise vertically from the sea, and admire the Stirling and Bowen Waterfalls as you cruise out to sea. Return to the pier for the coach back to Queenstown.

Day 6 Queenstown - Franz Josef

Travel through the Kawarau Gorge past Lake Dunstan on towards Wanaka. A brief stop is made in Makarora before crossing the Southern Alps as you enterthe Haast Pass. At Knights Point you can view magnificent seascapes. From here pass Lakes Moeraki and Paringa then past Bruce Bay to arrive at the Glaciers.

Day 8 Franz Josef - Greymouth - Christchurch

After breakfast, proceed up the West Coast via Hokitika to Greymouth. Join the TranzAlpine train at Greymouth for a spectacular journey through gorges, river valleys and farmland plains before reaching Christchurch (coach passengers only). (Self-drivers travel via Arthur’s Pass road en route to Christchurch).

In time transfer to the airport for your departure flight (Self-drive passengers return your car directly at the airport).

Queenstown is a resort town in Otago in the south-west of New Zealands South Island. It is built around an inlet called Queenstown Bay on Lake Wakatipu, a long thin Z-shaped lake formed by glacial processes and has spectacular views of nearby mountains such as The Remarkables, Cecil Peak and Walter Peak. Queenstown is now known for its commerce-oriented tourism, especially adventure and ski tourism. It is popular with New Zealand, Australian and international travelers alike.

 MOUNTCOOK

Mount Cook is the highest mountain in New Zealand. Until 2014, its height was officially listed as 3,754 meters, but new measurements have given a revised height of 3,724 meters (12,218 ft). It lies in the Southern Alps, the mountain range which runs the length of the South Island. A popular tourist destination, it is also a favorite challenge for mountain climbers. It consists of three summits lying slightly south and east of the main divide, the Low Peak, Middle Peak and High Peak, with the Tasman Glacier to the east and the Hooker Glacier to the west.
